Lithuania has got 1 000 000 likes in social networks

One year ago the State Department of Tourism (further referred to as the SDT) started implementing the campaign Like'able Lithuania, which invites tourists to Lithuania and presents things, which make our country like'able using social networks. From September of 2013 to September of 2014 the number of fans has reached 1 005 807 – this is the number of interactions the fans of the campaign made in the social networks.

The promotion campaign of Lithuania took place in 6 social networks: Facebook, Vkontakte, Twitter, Youtube, Google+ and Instagram. The campaign involved presenting interesting, new tourist attractions, events, facts, unexpected discoveries, suggestions of Lithuanian creators, exceptional catering institutions – that what everyone could like in Lithuania – every day in three languages (Lithuanian, English and Russian).

The fans of Lithuania or virtual tourists not only pressed "like", but also shared the contents of the campaign with their friends, published photos, videos, wrote comments, opinions and arguments why one should visit Lithuania.

"This is the first project of such scale implemented by the SDT in social networks, which involved finding 365 different ways to invite people to come to Lithuania. We are glad that the goal set at the beginning stage of the project – to achieve 1 000 000 likes – was successfully reached. It is obvious that social networks will remain one of the major ways of forming opinions in the market of tourism and travel even after a decade, thus the work in the social networks does not finish here and we will continue to develop it on the same note: there are many reasons to like Lithuania and visit it." says Dr. Raimonda Balnienė, the chief advisor of the SDT, presenting the results of the Like'able Lithuania campaign at the press conference.

Like'able Lithuania
will expand the network of its 6 social networking channels by adding two more: Pinterest and Vimeo. The people planning their travels will be provided with advice in order to avoid misunderstandings, save money, see the best sightseeing objects or get to know to the culture of the country. The campaign will continue presenting active Lithuanian companies, products and scientists, as well as boldly putting Lithuanian locations on the same shelf with that of the popular countries and looking for new objects of interest that were not discovered before.

Like'able Lithuania, the innovative communications campaign in social networks, was acknowledged by a jury of experts of the Lithuanian Internet Awards Login 2014 and awarded as the best in the category "Internet use in public sector advertising".

The campaign Like'able Lithuania is implemented by the State Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy and financed by the EU Structural Funds according to the project "Presentation of Lithuanian tourism products, image formation and advertising in the social networks" (No. VP3-1.3.-ŪM-04-V-03-002).
