Lithuanians travelled and entered into expenditure more in Lithuania

Last year almost each Lithuanian at least once was touring in Lithuania - during 2014 a total of 2.6 million travels of Lithuanians in the country was counted, 2.3% more than in 2013.

Expenditures of local Lithuanians last year increased in 7.9% (up to 138.1 million of Euros), and average daily expenditures increased in 9.5% and reached close to 20 Euros. This, according to Jurgita Kazlauskienė, Head of State Tourism Department (hereinafter- STD), is signalling about the growth of local tourism and about general economy recovery.

Most of Lithuanians, even 40% (or 1.1 million), last year visited relatives and friends. Another 31% (821 thou.) relaxed and had a vacation, 13% (333 thou.) travelled across the country for business and professional purposes, 8% (200 thou.) visited their own accommodation for relaxation purposes  3% (70 thou.) travelled for SPA and recreational purposes, 1% (25.5 thou.) for shopping purposes.

Habits of travelling abroad of Lithuanians last year changed slightly. 1.79 million of Lithuanians travelled abroad (1.4% more than in 2013), but Lithuanians abroad were saving their money and spent 782 million of Euros, 2.1% less than in 2013.

The number of personal travels to foreign countries remained almost unchanged and it takes 80% of all the travels, and 20 % consist of the number of business travels abroad (increased in 7.2%). Comparing the business and personal travel expenditures structurally, the trend becomes clear: the expenditures of personal travels last year decreased in 3.8 %, and business travel expenditures increased in 4%.

In 2014 most of Lithuanians travelled to Latvia (13%), United Kingdom (11.5%), Belarus (10%), Poland (8%) and Germany (6.5%).

From TOP-10 directions for travel of Lithuanians the most grew to Egypt (+75%) and Norway (+24.1%), and to Russia last year went in 13% less than in 2013.

13% of all Lithuanians that travelled abroad used the services of travel agencies and organizers (organized travel packages) (in 2013 it was 11.5%).

The price of organized travels of Lithuanians increased even in 12.7%, and during the last two years (2012-2014) it increased even in 32%.

Foreign visitors spent less money in Lithuania - for organized travel to Lithuania they paid 3.8% less than in 2013.

Totally the travel organizers and agencies took 237. 2 thousands of tourists from Lithuania (15.5% more than in 2013), and brought to Lithuania 437.1 thousands of tourists (8.1% less than in 2013).
