The State Department of Tourism strictly dissociates itself from and condemns the page having expropriated the trademark of Lithuanian tourism

2016-11-16

Expropriation of the Lithuanian tourism trademark and its use for purposes discrediting the country is a reprehensible act and violation of intellectual property, and the State Tourism Department under the Ministry of Economy (hereinafter - SDT) strictly dissociates itself from anonymous “Lituania – imperfect perfection” page on Facebook.

In order to defend the trademark and the image of tourism of Lithuania, the SDT referred to law enforcement authorities for illegal actions using the trademark and potentially criminal acts directed against the state of Lithuania. Also, a legal advice was sought for a possibility to refer to court. Facebook administration was also informed about inappropriate content of the web page.

At the same time, the SDT thanks the public, especially the tourism community, for their support and expressed concern with regard to tendentious harm done not only to Lithuanian tourism, but also to image of the entire country and the manipulation of official logos and a slogan of Lithuanian tourism.

The SDT has exclusive rights to use and to grant the right to other persons to use the trademark of Lithuanian tourism. Persons are conferred the right to use the trademark of Lithuanian tourism only for purposes that enhance the value of the trademark and contribute to the creation of positive image of Lithuanian tourism, promotion of tourism, development of tourism products and similar purposes related to the development of Lithuanian tourism.

Rules for the Provision and Usage of the Trademark Representing the Lithuanian Cultural and Natural Heritage are published on the SDT’s website.
