Currency
"Litas" (Lt) is the national currency unit since June 25, 1993. From 01.02.2002 Litas is pegged to the Euro at the rate 3.4528 LT to 1 EUR. From 1994 Litas was pegged to USD at the rate 4:1. The denomination of carrency is : 200,100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 Lt (Litas). Coins: 5 Lt, 2 Lt, 1 Lt, 50, 20, 5, 2 and 1 Ct (Centas). All convertible currency can be exchanged in banks and currency exchange offices. The latter are open at hotels, airports, railway and bus stations and shops. Transactions are mostly made in cash. Most hotels, major restaurants and shops, banks accept major credits cards including Eurocard, Mastercard, Visa and rarely American Express, Travellers Cheques in banks and some currency exchange offices.
